Tango on the chromatic harmonica

The Argentinian Santiago Alvarez is not only an incredibly expressive musician, he is also a wonderful teacher. He introduces participants to the music of his country, especially the tango, with great love and enthusiasm.

In this workshop you will learn the typical elements and playing techniques of Argentine tango. These will enable you to play the traditional melodies on the chromatic harmonica. Which ornaments are typical of Argentinian music? How can you use phrasing, breathing effects and articulation techniques to interpret an Argentinian tango in a way that adds your personal touch while retaining its character?

In this 3-hour workshop, Santiago will give you the tools you need to approach Argentinian music.

Santiago Alvarez
Hugo Diaz was his source of inspiration, Franco Luciani his teacher – Argentinian Santiago Alvarez dedicated himself to tango and Argentinian folk music at an early age. With the chromatic harmonica, the Buenos Aires-born artist has given the music of his home country a new voice. Alvarez has released several albums and played in various projects – including with percussionist Mariana Marianelena and pianist Pablo Murgier. In his home country, Santiago Alvarez is a lecturer for the traditional music of Argentina, which goes far beyond the tango. On his European tour in 2025, however, Alvarez is once again focusing on his first love, the tango, and introducing European audiences to the sound of the harmonica with piano accompaniment.
