Juke Joint Smokers

There are only a few who play the original Mississippi country hill blues as authentically and in such a uniquely modern way as Adam Sikora and Luis (Gigi) de Cicco from the Juke Joint Smokers. In October they will be playing together with Ryan Donohue and Oliver Kostrinsky at BALI-Kino.

Adam Sikora studied the playing techniques of early harmonica players such as Sonny Terry, Johnny Wood and Billy Bizor from an early age. The Polish-born harmonica player has adapted the playing of his idols and developed it into his own songs. He manages to fill the original sound of Mississippi country hill blues with his personal soul like no other.

Luis (Gigi) de Cicco is a versatile multi-instrumentalist from Benevento, Italy, who, like Adam Sikora, has found a home in the lively Berlin music scene. With capo, acoustic guitar and fingerpicks, Gigi has found his own blues groove and with his instrument dives deep into the styles of Mississippi Fred McDowell, RL Burnside and other hill country masters.

They will be joined at BALI by US musicians Ryan Donohue (New Orleans) and Oliver Kostrinsky (New York).

Guitarist and double bassist Ryan Donohue comes from New Jersey, but his musical home is New Orleans. As a child, he was influenced by visits to his extended family in Manhattan: Irish immigrants who carried music in their DNA. Donohue developed a unique but timeless approach to playing the traditional music of the American South and accompanying it with a strong, soulful vocal style. He is a regular guest at renowned international festivals.
