Marcos Coll + Josué Barquero

A guy from Spain and one from Costa Rica; a harmonica and a guitar. The two musicians Marcos Coll (harmonica) and Josué Barquero (guitar), who live in Berlin, bring to the stage what their musical hearts beat for: Latin American rhythms and Spanish folk songs, with a touch of blues and southern European joy of playing.

In the Year of the Accordion, we are joining forces with our sister instrument from time to time. For example, in May, when we will be guests at the Accordion Festival Berlin with a FEN concert. An evening together with the accordionists of the Hohner Conservatory in Trossingen.

Further dates in the Year of the Accordion can be found on the website of the  Berlin State Music Council.

At the age of 13, Marcos Coll discovered his love for the harmonica, which has stayed with him to this day. The Spanish blues harmonica player, who lives in Berlin, has already shared the stage with a wide variety of international greats – from Mick Taylor (Rolling Stones) to the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra.
However, his musical home is the folk music of Spain and Latin America. In 2011, he founded the Mexican Latino music band ‘Los Mighty Calacas’, with whom he toured the world and released an album entitled ‘Hot Pelucho Sounds’ featuring top guest musicians such as Charlie Musselwhite.
On his latest album, ‘Nómade’ (2023), Coll successfully combines his love for Latin America with his Spanish roots. He effortlessly brings together Galician Muñeiras with Coplas Castellanas and Boleros or Norteñas Mexicanas – music that shaped his childhood and youth; melodies he heard his grandmother humming and rhythms he tapped on the table as a little boy.

Costa Rican guitarist Josué Barquero has been devoted to the rich rhythmic repertoire of Latin American folklore for many years. Tambito from Costa Rica, Brazilian bossa nova, cumbia from Colombia or Argentine tango – the Berlin-based guitarist has brought many of these typical rhythms back with him from his travels through Latin America – his musical language is correspondingly rich and authentic.
Josué Barquero studied classical guitar at the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica and has developed his career both as a performer and arranger. He has performed in major theatres in Costa Rica, Colombia and Mexico and has worked with international groups such as the Argentine ensemble Lutherieces and the chamber choir Entrevoces from Cuba.
