CREATIVE PRACTICE

In this masterclass Roni Eytan shares his own practicing experiences. His concept of creative practicing is suitable for any instrument, not just the harmonica. We therefore invite anyone to join and bring their instruments.

FEN SPECIAL – masterclass for all instruments and all level

In this session, I’d like to share different ways I keep my practice routine engaging and enjoyable, while still staying focused and effective—especially when time is limited. When practice is creative and playful, but also structured with clear goals, it becomes something I actually look forward to.

Often, the challenge is turning so-called “boring” tasks into something more musical and inspiring. Repetition, for example, is crucial for developing many skills in music. Rather than avoiding it, I believe in finding ways to transform repetitive exercises into fun and exciting games—ones you can get lost in. When approached like this, practice becomes less of a chore and more of an exploration.

My hope is to share tools and strategies that can help musicians—not only harmonica players, of course!—at any level turn their practice time into something creative, focused, and genuinely enjoyable.

The instructor

Over the years Roni Eytan has developed a unique way of playing the harmonica, by drawing on influences from a wide range of music, transcending the traditional sonorities associated the instrument, and achieving a singular musical voice.
In 2018, Roni was the first harmonica player to be chosen for the prestigious Herbie Hancock Institute program. While on the program, he studied under the artistic direction of Hancock and Shorter, and various other jazz masters.
Roni’s musical language is based in the jazz tradition of improvisation, and also feeds off music from the Middle East and North Africa (particularly Andalusian music), which he absorbed and studied in his hometown of Jerusalem.
